#sm71 What is the driving force to be more social today? is it external or internal?
#sm71 hi everyone. let's talk about why you don't need to waste money on a social medua strategy
RT : Tune in for a tweetchat with some of the brightest minds in social media.... really! Noon EST today. http://is.gd/e0w2h #sm71
#sm71 not a trick question! too many "gurus" telling companies social media is a stand-along
#sm71 social media may - or may not be part of Integrated strategy - depends on goals, resources
#sm71 when clients say "add something social" they are going to fail. "social" tools need to be part of the architecture
#sm71 strategy CAN include social media tools when there are enough resources, commitment to change
#sm71 when clients say "add something social" they are going to fail. "social" tools need to be part of the architecture
#sm71 that's GMOOT - but a company that only wants to broadcast in twitter, or put out releases in Facebook is wasting their time
#sm71 social media can sometimes be handled internally - depends on the skills
#sm71 tactics and strategy are different. social media is a set of tools. using them well requires skill, money
#sm71 social media has to be the way the company thinks; the willingness to accept negative feedback
#sm71 social media can sometimes be handled internally - depends on the skills
#sm71 what are you doing to keep your skills up up to date so you an educate management?
#sm71 yes, experimentation needs to be built into strategy, but strategy comes from setting goals
#sm71 unless you have a plan for integrating all aspects of business, tactics won't help you reach your goal
#sm71 teaching staff is paramount. if you've been in the same job for 3 years
#sm71 unless you have a plan for integrating all aspects of business, tactics won't help you reach your goal
RT : Social media in a bottle, That myth comes apart if companies realize social strategy = the clothes they wear ;) #sm71
#sm71 teaching staff is paramount. if you've been in the same job for 3 years
RT : RT : #sm71 Social Media is not another silo, must run thru every part of organization. is element of biz strategy
#sm71 - true - but i know for sure that social media isn't a war tactic. LOL
#sm71 the greatest amount of teaching is needed in C-suite.
#sm71 Question 2 - is you're not social offline, how can you succeed in social online? is there a formula?
#sm71 if you don't walk the social media walk, as well as talk the talk, you can't advise anyone on how to do it!
#sm71 putting social media in the PR, or adv, or brand dept isn't going to work either. INTEGRATION is the key
#sm71 Seth Godin said it best - talk about what people want to know, not just what you want to tell them. that's so hard for corps
#sm71 email is getting more useless by the day. you can always reach me first by text, IM, DM
#sm71
#sm71 there's no formula for social media success for individuals or companies - but both need to start with serious listening
#sm71 Pepsi is actually one company that IS engaging offline thru their CSM programs
#sm71 Pepsi is actually one company that IS engaging offline thru their CSM programs
RT RT You have to be as good offline as you are online. Consistency and integration. #sm71
#sm71 before consumers can engage, corps need to be monitoring
#sm71 the reason those companies screwed up offline was they didn't listen. bring that attitude online same results
#sm71 companies have to have staff to devote to social media. the time
#sm71 the reason those companies screwed up offline was they didn't listen. bring that attitude online same results
#sm71 companies have to have staff to devote to social media. the time
#sm71 any agency or company that hires someone to work in SM who isn't active in SM deserves what they get
RT : #sm71 dog still needs to eat the dog food. that's always the starting point. if that's not happening, SM won't help:)
#sm71 troo - many times very vocal people online are painfully shy offline. not me though :>)
RT : #sm71 dog still needs to eat the dog food. that's always the starting point. if that's not happening, SM won't help:)
#sm71 troo - many times very vocal people online are painfully shy offline. not me though :>)
#sm71 yes! when companies say their customers aren't using social media we know right away that they aren't in touch with today's reality
#sm71 for every customer who makes a phone call, 100s or 1000s have same issue; ditto for online use
RT : Social media needs a stone cold dose of demystification #sm71
#sm71 what areas have been most successful for you?
#sm71 SM is NOT supplemental. it needs to be INTEGRATED with all channels
#sm71
#sm71 Q 3- what are some indications that your company is ready to be social?
RT Why would you say social engagement offline is irrelevant for large enterprises? #sm71
#sm71 these definitions of integrated marketing ROCK. thanks guys!!
RT #sm71 - Success areas: listening to customer needs, then moving on to producing content after learning. Tools are #sm71
#sm71 what part of social media is mystifying you?
#sm71 big companies, trying to control conversation, try to respond only to traditional media. what will not work
#sm71 companies that think social media is not as integral to business as phone, email are in for a surprise
#sm71 there is a prevailing myth that social media can't be measured, ergo it can't help bottom line
#sm71 it used to be a joke among bloggers that companies didn't monitor their brand on weekends. now that's not an option for companies
#sm71 what companies should look for in external experts is a track record w/actual clients, not just guru theory
#sm71 i think companies get the best results with a combination of internal
#sm71 you r right - many companies only have customer service 9-5. so out of touch!
#sm71 need for internal champion comes back to the need to keep learning, listening, and keeping skills up to date
#sm71 heh! thanks! stirring the pot is my specialty
#sm71 can't answer that in 60 secs :>)
#sm71
#sm71 hey guys., thank you so much for all the great points. this has been big fun and i learned a lot!
#sm71 bring in the "guru" at your own risk
#sm71 thanks for putting this together! you really have a great thing going. happy to be a part of it!
