Ah, if you want THIS one, go here http://bit.ly/bjPUzr or here http://bit.ly/dx4go7 Thought the question was general #sm74
Perhaps RT : personal brand is what you put out and reputation is what you get back. It's a metric of success #sm74
Really enjoyed your input today on #sm74
LOL RT : Hi-yo, Kami! Thanks for the mention. I can't say that's a job I would have wanted, though. #sm74
It was great to chat. And if I can't find the blog post, perhaps I will write it this week. You are always helpful! #sm74
Thanks for inviting me in today! It was a great discussion. #sm74
Okay people, it is already 1ET, hard to believe! This has been a great chat. Please feel free to continue the discussion. #sm74
Agree monitoring tools are essential, just be sure you have one that can handle the volume, this from hard experience. #sm74
Probably do, have a preso with it at http://slideshare.net/kamichat #sm74
RT : or just go here to make it easy :-) http://hashtagsocialmedia.com/event/74 #sm74
Yes, the spreadsheet is something I am testing for crisis. You can then take it and parse data. #sm74
RT : During a crisis, turn off autoposts, delay unrelated PR. Stay on message, especially when customers are hurting #sm74
I usually look at 5 types: Stakeholders, Influentials, Vocal Bystanders, Determined Detractors, Competitors. Respond appropriately #sm74
RT : Never underestimate the forgiving nature (and relatively short memory) of most people. #sm74
RT : open and honest communication #sm74 humble when appropriate #sm74
Yes, I am certain we will see more brandjacking or coordinated attacks on a brand in social media. #sm74
Tool I am testing is http://bit.ly/9dXBiL. It drops search into a Google Doc. Our chat in Doc http://bit.ly/aTZ4cy #sm74
RT : Yes, we agree with Part of that transparency is not deleting comments/posts/tweets. #sm74
RT : Re: velocity. You must be prepared in advance. No time to gather the troops after an attack. #sm74
RT : If your brand doesnt already have one - you!! - Social Media Response Flow Chart http://slidesha.re/cF1S86 #sm74
RT : Of equal importance if crisis belonging to competitor, resist impulse to take advantage - just makes crisis yours #sm74
You can diffuse with an individual, but if that individual has loyal followers, it can take on a life of its own. #sm74
RT : Re: velocity. You must be prepared in advance. No time to gather the troops after an attack. #sm74

Agree it is the same as other tools, but not the velocity. That is unbelievable. #sm74
Are you prepared for the velocity ? Even for a minor dustup you can get up to 15-20 tweets a minute. Major crisis, 100+ #sm74
RT : Q3: Address it immediately & if you screwed up, apologize then outline steps for amending situation. #sm74
Doh! Good luck, hope it isn't too hot where you are. #sm74
Agree! RT : crises are best handled promptly, transparently and humbly. No "spin" - that fuels fire. #sm74
Good point, you have to see the crisis from the other's POV and ignore trolls #sm74

Good point, you have to see the crisis from the other's POV and ignore trolls #sm74
When you are "out there" in SM, there is an almost 100% likelihood that you will spark a crisis for your "brand" at some point. #sm74
Explain that further. RT : i think being an adult helps. Not being reactionary. #socialmedia #sm74
I use the tools carefully, Hootsuite is a great way to go if you have multiple accounts across both Twitter and Facebook #sm74
Q3: Be it a personal or professional crisis, what is your plan for handling a negative backlash in #socialmedia? #sm74
For the last 20 minutes I want to turn to a subject that is on the underbelly of social media, crisis. #sm74
I think that grooming prople is the norm for smart companies, but many are still trying to control the channel #sm74
LOL, just using you as an exaple...again ;-) #sm74
RT : Team is strong and they had own brands too. Most people didn't notice a change. Comcast & I will always b connected #sm74
RT : Organizational brand ambassadors need 2B on same hi-level page, but each must deliver unique value/distinctions. #sm74
RT : Its still about the organizations products: scouting, leadership, fun, cookies ;-) the total package #sm74
Indeed, Ford benefited from (ho Scott) and he benefited from Ford. He is much bigger and so are they. #sm74
The question was how will go on without you. I imagined you would say you had a strong team? #sm74
Sure you did. RT : Sorry, Frank -- didnt mean to suck you in. :-) #sm74
Hi Thanks for joining. #sm74
What about grooming people inside the organization to gain some growth with their personal reputation, comes to mind. #sm74
Got it! ;-) #sm74
RT If leaves, Dell has others in his place and he changes username but retains personal brand/reputation. #sm74
Yes, brands are different than humans, which is why I find the term "personal brand" so irritating #sm74
Like this! So true. RT : Q2: Listen to your audience, as you grow theyll want more, be open and grow how they want #sm74
What about cross functional teams across the company? More than one entry point to the org? #sm74
Yes, each brand will choose how it engages, but as says, relationships are built with ppl, not brands. #sm74
RT Don't consider reputation. Its based on past acts. Scaling is based on current & near acts. Getting ego out helps. #sm74
I think that companies tend to let one star shine, when a constellation would be a better bet. #sm74
RT : I think will be an excellent case study in the future to see how/if rep. changed. #sm74
What about changing jobs? RT : Q2.Never forget who you work for and never forget where you cam from. #sm74
Agree that the problem with personal brands is indeed the ego that inevitably finds its way out. #sm74
Ah yes, but I would argue brand ambassadors and personal brands are not necessarily the same. #sm74
RT : Agreed. It seems like such a hot topic. Id rather just do my work well and let my work speak for itself. #sm74
Which leads me to Q2 ;-) thanks for the bridge #sm74
Q2: How do you scale online success for an organization or individual as your reputation grows? #sm74
Agree that people with strong reputations help a company, but people focused solely on building themselves may not be good. #sm74
I do think that we have focused on the personal brand to the detriment of reputation in some cases. #sm74
Great question by what about when a company has strong personal brands working for it? Who benefits? #sm74
Great question by what about when a company has strong personal brands working for it? Who benefits? #sm74
Yes, I see your point. #sm74
I also think that a focus on a personal brand is too inward focused when #socialmedia success requires an outward focus #sm74
That is my thinking too #sm74
An aside: Interesting to me that brands are working to be more human, and humans are looking to be brands #sm74
My concern precisely RT : My personal branding efforts are worthless if I dont have the reputation to back them up. #sm74
Meaning, people will see us as they see us, we think we can brand ourselves but who really owns this "brand"? #sm74
An aside: Interesting to me that brands are working to be more human, and humans are looking to be brands #sm74
I think that personal brand is contrived and reputation is earned. #sm74
RT : I think reputation is created collectively by others. Personal branding is something you propagate. #sm74
Yes, presence and experience are controlled, but not sure this is really a brand per se but more presentation. #sm74
RT : I think reputation is created collectively by others. Personal branding is something you propagate. #sm74
Good point, the personal brand is very nebulous. We don't own it, so why are we trying so hard? #sm74

RT : #sm74 is a weekly social media chat - come join people. Q1 is "Is reputation more important than a personal brand” #sm74
Right, which makes me wonder why we spend so much time trying to gain control via the personal brand obsession #sm74
Right, which makes me wonder why we spend so much time trying to gain control via the personal brand obsession #sm74
Good point here! RT : Q1: Your personal brand should always have a reputation...Your reputation = your personal brand #sm74
Hey. You will have to ask and about the hashtag question #sm74
Q1: So, let's hear from YOU. Is reputation more important than a “personal brand” in #socialmedia? #sm74
Here is an interview I gave to about how to build your reputation online to frame a bit http://bit.ly/4HReyx #sm74 #sm74
I am not a really big fan of the "personal brand" but I am all about reputation. Biggest compliment is to be known for your work. #sm74
Thanks Marc, I am really looking forward to the chat today #sm74
Character is like a tree and reputation like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing. -Lincoln #sm74
Can you set up a link for me and a speadsheet with open permissions for #sm74?
I am just about to start the #sm74 #socialmedia chat on Reputation vs. Personal Branding. Hope you all can join in
Sure, you can get to it at http://bit.ly/9QvTQV. Better yet, go to your fav client, I am using TwitterChat and add #sm74
